Welcome to the family –
Ball teams are like families. We appreciate the opportunity to be part of yours.
I began as most travel parents, cheering on my girls, Kyrissa and Delaney. It became clear that team practices were not going to bring them up to the skill level they desired. First, I purchased the USA National Team video series and studied it. I began working with them between practices and tournaments with these fundamentals.
Next, I became involved as an assistant skills coach with the travel team. I attended Coaching Clinics – University of Tennessee, Higher Ground (Bobby Simpson), Softball Futures (Dave Majeski) – in addition to noting what coaches were doing at the girls softball camps. I subscribed to Sue Enquist’s video series and joined newsletter and forums. All of what I learned from successful coaches I incorporated into the travel team and the girls individual practices. It was eye-opening to learn that all I thought I knew from playing softball on the Michelin industrial league team was often incorrect and such a small portion of what is needed to become an elite player.
Eventually, I became a high school coach. We were very successful – conference championships, state championship, etc. – at incorporating the skill drills and knowledge into our team practices. Several players of mine went on to play college softball.
Now that my youngest daughter has moved on to her freshman year of college to play softball for UNCG, I decided to make use of what I have learned over these nine years and help young softball and baseball players achieve their dreams of playing in college someday. I hope to have the privilege of working with your child on that journey.
